Common vs concerning

This page describes behaviours, not people. Many relationships have hard patches. Some behaviours are worth taking seriously.

Often part of ordinary relationships

  • Needing some space after a long day.
  • Texting less, or differently, than you do.
  • Disagreements that get talked through afterwards.
  • Having friends and time of their own.

Worth taking seriously

  • Checking your phone or messages without your agreement.
  • Controlling your money, who you see or where you go.
  • Threats, or breaking things to scare you.
  • Making you afraid of how they'll react.
  • Punishing or mocking you for raising a concern.
  • Pressuring you into sexual activity.

If any of these are happening to you, it isn't your fault, and support is available.
